Snowdon Challenge 2024

This page contains all the information you require about our Snowdon challenge next year.
We can't wait to see you there! Look out for more details in the coming weeks. Trust us, this is an event you don't want to miss. Let's begin with a few important details…
-
26th - 28th June 2024
-
Mount Snowdon, Gwynedd, Wales
-
We intend to organise a fantastic charity event that will make us all feel tremendously accomplished, in addition to raising a significant sum of money for The Cycle.
Event details
When is the climb? 27th June. *Date to be confirmed once everyone has signed up.
How long will the climb take? A typical day up Snowdon can take up to 7.5 hours – always allow a full day for your activity.
How many nights will we be away? We advise staying nearby the night before and the night after. It's totally okay if you want to depart after the climb; but there will be celebrating afterwards!!
How much is it? We will settle on prices as soon as we obtain our final figures. But right now, £45 per person is what we're looking at for the climb. To confirm the reservation, they will require a 30% deposit; the full balance must be paid no later than six weeks prior to the event date. We will be in touch with more details once we have a list of interested parties!
How much do I need to raise? We would like every climber to try raise >£500 each. It would be incredible if we could aim for a group sum of £20,000!!!
Who can join the event? You are all welcome, of course! We do ask that you limit your invites to your team and their significant others, as we do want to make this a Ripples event.
Where is the money we raise going? Over the past 13 years, Ripples has been putting a lot of effort into raising money for The Cycle, a charitable organisation. Our fundraising efforts will support their efforts to enhance gender equality by funding menstrual education programmes and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services. Since this is a Ripples Charity event, we would like to keep it in place where everyone is contributing to the same charity. Learn more about The Cycle here.
Do I need insurance? Climb Snowdon have adequate liability insurance for the activities they offer. Once we have reserved a spot on your Climb Snowdon day, it is advised that each participant get travel and trip insurance to cover any mishaps or unexpected cancellations.
Registration will need to be completed by the 1st of February as it’s a really busy time of year for Climb Snowdon and they need everything confirmed as early as possible.

How fit do I need to be?
If you’re hoping to climb England and Wales’ highest peak comfortably (and be able to walk the next day!), then you will need a reasonable level of general fitness as there will be steep and uneven terrain with exposed areas. Our guides have led people of all ages up Snowdon, but unless you exercise regularly, your muscles may feel a bit sore over the two days following your event.
We will be asked about any medical conditions when we book, so it's critical that we all provide accurate and thorough answers. The team may get in touch with us directly if they have any questions regarding any medical information in order to clear up any doubts and make sure they can get their Mountain Leaders ready to provide us with any additional special care that may be needed.
It is advised that you try to have finished a few five-mile walks in the month before to the Climb, preferably on varied terrain and in a variety of weather conditions. If you can do one longer day walk across steep terrain while carrying a rucksack, you'll know you have the strength to begin your walk on Snowdon. You should take several walks to acclimate and familiarise yourself with your equipment.
Take a look at their downloadable Climb Snowdon training plan to help you get ready for the big day.
What if the weather is bad?
"Everyone who signs up to one of our Climb Snowdon days should be ready for various weathers on their walk. This includes extreme heat as well as wind, rain, low cloud and even snow showers sometimes! As an experienced mountain activity provider, if we deem the incoming weather to be a danger to our walking groups and/or Mountain Leader staff, then we may make alternative arrangements in terms of route planning. This could include walking up as far as we can before turning back, taking an alternative route, i.e. a traverse instead of an ascent, we may even take a group up a smaller neighbouring mountain with views of Snowdon.
In the extremely unlikely event that we have to cancel a walk completely, then all information can be found on our Terms and Conditions. This is a rare occasion – so we’re happy to walk in rain and low cloud, as long as everyone has the required kit to stay dry, warm and happy."
Can I get a train on the way down?
Please be aware that there is no assurance that there will be trains on the mountain with seats available at any given time, and that single tickets are only available on a standby basis at the destination station of the day. You should therefore be ready to walk down as well as up.
Accommodation
Around Snowdon, there are many different accommodation options, such as self-catering properties, B&Bs, hostels, camping, and hotels (including 5*). As it will be peak season and rooms will book up quickly, I encourage making your own reservations as soon as possible. Please note that you will be responsible for making your own hotel reservations.
Pricing for hotels varies. For instance, Climb Snowdon has recommended The Royal Victoria, whose tariff is £280 for two persons over two nights.
Please refer to the resources above for a full list of recommended places.
So how much is this all going to cost?
Broken down these are all the costs you need to consider.
